Where was that amphibious plane parking? I don’t think the EAA grounds are directly on Lake Winnebago or connected to it

Hmm, just looked in Google Earth, that’s a lot of planes:
Says the imagery is from 2011
Edit: Anyone know what these are:

Do you mean the airplanes in the water? They were at the Seaplane Base, on Lake Winnebago. It’s a 10 minute shuttle ride to Air Harbor Seaplane Base, and it’s part of Airventure - a nice, quiet escape from the crowds.

Yea, I didn’t know that was even an option that’s really cool . It’s been a while since I’ve been to AirVenture but am thinking next year I’ll go again.

Over 10, 000 of them.
Where on the field did you find those two?

I love the old polished aluminum look. And that one has a unique engine - a flat 8, generating 400 HP.

Dat polished aluminum! Earlier, the owner had the cowl open, showing 4 cylinders per side - that’s how it caught my eye originally, but I didn’t get a photo of that.

Well, and also every biplane there.
Well, and everything else there, tbh.

OK, that’s the Homebuilt area. I’d bet that those are Dyke Deltas:

A side trip to the Seaplane Base is a must if you’re there for 2-3 days or more - but I would suggest going when the winds are calm, so you see some activity (the lake was choppy and no one was moving when I visited) . If you’re only there 1 day, I’d suggest passing, unless you’re really into it.

That’s actually the same airplane in my photo (there’s only 1 Yak-110 in existence AFAIK), just before they hung the jet engine off of it.

Yeah, if that Olds was a ‘65 and not ‘68, I might have just stolen it right then and there.
And if money was no object, I would buy a brand new Waco YMF-5, just like the one in the first picture.

Thanks for the captions. I always forget half the stuff I see.
They got a lake too! Wow didn't know that. I gotta go sometime.

My mom’s was a ‘65. I can relate.

The Seaplane Base is on Lake Winnebago, and about a 10 minute shuttle ride from the main grounds. It’s a nice quiet break from the main show.
Oh, I forget too! I try to take pictures of tail numbers and display signs, and still have to research some of them after I get home.

They’re cool looking, and I’ve seen them at Airventure before.
Not really sure how well they fly, but I’ve seen at least one take off from Oshkosh.

As was mine. But I’m a Cutlass/ 442 fan in general. Heck, I love Olds mobiles in general.

Yeah, I can’t imagine that the Mallard is all that much fun to fly, really, as cool as it looks.
I didn’t even know that 8 cylinder engine existed until I saw it under the cowl of that Comanche. Very cool.

I could see flying low and slow in the Mallard, and having a good time doing that - in a straight line mostly, I guess!
I looked up the IO-720 - apparently it was basically all ag plus the Comanche and a handful of Helio Couriers, that’s it.
